I hurt myself
I hurt myself
Sometimes you feel so bad or angry that you don't know what to do. Then you may hurt yourself. Maybe you just want to feel something, or nothing at all for a while. Maybe you don't even know exactly why you're doing it. Whatever you're feeling: you're not alone. And there is help. Because when you hurt yourself, something is bothering you. You may ask for help with that.
What can you do?
What can you do?
Talk about it
Talking helps. It really does. It's exciting to tell people you hurt yourself, but it often relieves. You don't have to explain everything right away. Just start with how you feel. Talk to someone you trust. For example, a friend, parent, mentor or someone from school. They won't be angry. Most of all, they feel bad for you that you feel this way.
See your family doctor or POH Youth
Self-harm is a sign that you are in pain inside. The family doctor can think with you. You can also talk to a POH Youth (that's someone who helps you with problems). Everything you say is confidential. That means: it stays between you.
Prefer to talk anonymously first?
You can. You can contactThe Children's Telephone.
You can call, chat or app with someone who really listens. Without judgment. You can say anything.
Is it because of school?
Sometimes the stress or pain also comes from school. For example, because of the pressure to perform well. Or something that happened in class. Then you can talk to someone at school, such as a mentor, school social worker or the youth doctor from the GGD. They are there to help and not everyone needs to know that right away.
