I am looking for transportation
I am looking for transportation
If you are less mobile or have a disability, getting around Houten can be a challenge. There are several ways to still stay independent and active.
What can you do?
What can you do?
Ask around you
Can't manage to arrange transportation? Then see if someone close to you can help. Family, friends or neighbors are often willing to help, but sometimes don't know.
Electric vehicles
Within Houten's Ring Road, you can use small electric vehicles traveling on bike lanes on weekdays (09:00-17:00). Check out the website for more information.
ANWB AutoMaatje
Via ANWB AutoMaatje volunteer drivers take you in their own cars, for an expense allowance, to places such as the doctor, store or physical therapist.
Regiotaxi Utrecht
Through the Regiotaxi Utrecht you can use a cab without indication and at regular rates.
Transportation to day care
If you need transportation to day care, you are first expected to solve this within your network. If this is not possible due to circumstances, you can ask the Social Team Houten about the possibilities. In case of a Long-Term Care Act indication, transport can be requested from the Care Office.
Transportation to work
Having trouble traveling to work? Contact the UWV for customized solutions.
Transportation to the hospital
Some trips to the hospital are covered by your health insurance company. Do you fall outside that arrangement? Then you can use AutoMaatje or Regiotaxi.
Help with public transportation travel
If you have questions about how public transportation travel works you can go to OV Ambassadors go. The OV ambassadors can explain how to travel by bus or train. They help with scheduling, chip card use and checking in and out.
Valys - transportation outside the region
The Valys is there for people with mobility impairments. Going further than 25 kilometers? Then you may be able to use Valys, special transportation for above-regional travel.
Tools for getting around
When walking becomes more difficult:
- Rollator or cane (available at home health care stores, among other places)
- Wheelchair (temporarily borrowable through health care store)
- Wheelchair (for occasional use, can often be borrowed at a hospital, zoo or museum). A wheelchair can also be purchased through home care stores.
For bicycles or alternative transportation:
If you have difficulty riding a bike, you may want to see if an electric bike is an option for you. An electric bicycle makes pedaling easier. When you can no longer manage to ride a bicycle, it is possible to buy or rent a mobility scooter. Several assistive device suppliers and home care stores sell mobility scooters. At several suppliers it is possible to rent a mobility scooter (e.g. Welzorg or Medipoint).
Don't know which assistive device is right for you? An occupational therapist can help you. In Houten this is possible through Warande or Zorgspectrum and in Utrecht through Ergotherapiepraktijk Doen.
Handicapped parking pass
Do you have difficulty walking and is parking difficult for you because the distance you would have to travel to your destination is too great? You may be able to apply for a disabled parking permit or space through the municipality of Houten.
