I have concerns about my child's safety
Your child's safety is paramount. Do you worry about things at home, such as arguments between siblings or dangerous items in the house? Or do you feel uneasy about school? Take your concerns seriously. It is important to take action if you think your child is not safe.
What can you do?
What can you do?
Immediate danger or imminent danger
Is there immediate danger? Then call 112. The police and ambulance can help immediately. Even if the situation has been unsafe for some time, it is important to seek help.
Safe Home helps with unsafe situations. Whether it is physical violence or feelings such as fear or grief, you can go there for advice and help.
Discussing safety at school
Sometimes children don't feel safe at school. Do you notice that this bothers your child? If so, talk to the school. This can be with the teacher or a confidential advisor. Tell what your concerns are. Also involve your child in the conversation. That way you can look for a solution together.
Trustee
Most schools have a confidential advisor. This is there for parents, children and caregivers. The confidant listens to your concerns and helps to discuss the problem and look for solutions together.
Set clear boundaries.
Is an older sibling doing things that are dangerous? If so, make sure there are clear rules in the home. Discuss with your child what is and is not allowed. Also ask what your child needs to feel safe. And what he or she can do if something happens that doesn't feel right. For example, agree on a code word.
