I need an aid or modification in my home
I need an aid or modification in my home
If you have a physical disability or are less mobile, home modifications or an assistive device can help. It can make it possible to perform tasks that were previously impossible or difficult. Sometimes a small change can make you more self-reliant.

Resources and facilities
You can buy many aids yourself at a hardware store, home health care store or (bathroom) specialty store.
Consider:
For the bathroom and toilet:
- A shower chair, shower seat or toilet riser
- Wall brackets or handles
- A raised or lowered toilet bowl
- An anti-slip treatment for the floor
- Thermostatic or lever mixers
- A sanibroyeur
For other parts of the house:
- A second banister or extra stair step
- Threshold aids
- A door holdback
- A video doorbell
Setting up differently
In some cases, rearranging your home can help. Moving the washing machine from the attic to the first floor can be helpful. Or if the tall kitchen cabinets are difficult to reach, you can put in a cabinet that is accessible.
If you cannot place a facility independently or with your network, you can contact the help and odd jobs service from Van Houten&Co. The facility and materials must then be paid for by yourself. With the handyman service, you pay a small fee for the work.
Borrowing a temporary tool
Many aids you can temporarily borrow for free through your health insurance. Think of a shower chair, toilet raiser, hoist or threshold aid. Call your health insurance company or ask at a home care store.
Moving
If too many or too big adjustments are needed or you find your home too big for yourself, then moving may be better.
If you rent a home from Woonin and want to live smaller, you may be eligible for the 'From Big to Better'. You may then be able to get priority on a smaller property. For more information about this scheme, please contact Woonin.
If you are looking for a (social) rental property, you can visit the website of DAK Region Utrecht (formerly WoningNet) look.
If you are looking for free sector and mid-rent housing, you can also visit Woonin look, or at other housing associations.
There are a variety of homes such as senior housing or assisted living. These homes are through the housing associations or through DAK.
The housing coach can help you with advice and taking the right steps. For questions about home modifications, but also about moving to a more suitable (rental) home. The volunteer housing coach will make an appointment with you by telephone and then come for a home visit.
A Fokus home is an adapted, ground-level home for people with physical disabilities. Assistance is available 24/7 with General Daily Living (ADL) tasks such as dressing and undressing, showering and simple nursing tasks. The home is rented from the housing corporation. For more information, please visit the website of Fokus.
Urgency Statement
If you have questions about the options for applying for a urgency statement, you can contact the municipality of Houten to do so. The urgency committee will check if you qualify for urgency and thus get priority over other house seekers. The urgency committee is not part of the Social Team Houten.
