The impact of social media on my child

Social media is important to many children. They keep in touch with friends and share what they like. But it is sometimes difficult for parents to know how to properly guide your child. Talking about what they do online and teaching them how to protect themselves is already a good step.

What can you do?
What can you do?
Ask your network
Do you know parents with experience with social media with their children? Ask what they do to help their child use the Internet safely. Maybe they have helpful tips or apps you can use, too.
Ensure open communication
Talk to your child often about social media. Ask what apps they use, what they do there and who they talk to. This will keep the contact open.
Make arrangements
Make rules together about social media. Agree how much time your child can be online, what apps they can use and what they should do if someone says or sends something nasty.
Media Education
Children are increasingly using media and technology. TheNetherlands Youth Instituteprovides tips on how to help your child use the Internet, games and social media safely and healthily.
